Chapter 1 - The Wet City Street

The freezing rain poured relentlessly over the dark city street, reflecting the neon lights of the luxury downtown hotel. The pavement was slick and empty, except for a horrifying scene of absolute, quiet devastation unfolding right outside the grand entrance.
Natalie, a brilliant thirty-something tech CEO, sat completely still in a heavy medical wheelchair. She looked incredibly fragile. A thick white bandage was wrapped tightly around her head, and her left arm was secured in a rigid white sling. She wore a simple white cardigan to fend off the biting cold, entirely ignoring the rain soaking her clothes.
She was staring directly at a sleek black luxury car parked by the valet.
Stepping out of the hotel doors was her husband, Grant. He was wearing a sharp, tailored dark suit and a black tie, looking devastatingly handsome and completely untouched by tragedy. Clinging tightly to his arm was Vanessa, a stunning blonde woman in a skin-tight red dress.
A wide cinematic shot captured Natalie’s cold, paralyzing realization.
"How was the investor dinner, Grant?" Natalie asked, her voice cutting through the heavy rain like a shattered piece of glass.
Grant completely froze. All the color violently drained from his face. He stepped aggressively away from the black car in pure, unadulterated panic, dropping the valet ticket on the wet pavement.

"Natalie?" Grant choked out, his chest heaving. "What are you doing here?"
