Chapter 5 - The Parasite's Betrayal

Madison hyperventilated, clutching her plunging red silk gown. She looked at the private jet, she looked at the heavily armed bodyguards, and then she looked at Ethan.
She realized she was standing on a tarmac with a broke, ruined criminal who was about to be federally indicted. She wasn't going to let a sinking ship drag her down.
"I didn't know he stole it!" Madison yelled desperately at Claire, aggressively backing away from Ethan. "He lied to me! I thought he earned that money! I am not going to prison for this pathetic loser!"
"Madison, don't you dare walk away from me!" Ethan roared, his face flushing crimson with fury. He lunged forward, trying to grab her arm.
But Madison violently slapped his hand away. "Don't touch me! You're broke!"
Madison turned and sprinted awkwardly in her high heels and red silk gown toward the airfield terminal, completely abandoning the man she had supposedly loved just five minutes earlier.
"Madison! Come back here!" Ethan screamed, entirely humiliated.
"Let her run," Claire said quietly, her voice drawing Ethan's terrified attention back to her.
Ethan turned around, tears of pure, desperate terror finally welling in his dark eyes. He was completely, irreversibly alone.
"Claire," Ethan sobbed, dropping all pretense of arrogance. "I'm your husband. We built a life together. You can't just leave me out here with absolutely nothing."

"You didn't build anything, Ethan," Claire corrected flawlessly. "You were just a parasite feeding off my father's empire."
