Chapter 9 - The Father's Pride

The chaotic, frantic energy completely evaporated from the sunlit tarmac.
Claire didn't cry. She didn't look back at the police cars driving away. She let out a long, shuddering breath. The heavy, agonizing weight of a toxic, manipulative marriage was finally, completely lifted from her shoulders. She had protected her family's empire. She had completely destroyed the monsters trying to ruin her.
Suddenly, her father, a distinguished older man in a sharp suit, walked down the stairs of the private jet. He had been waiting safely inside the cabin the entire time.
He didn't look angry about the scandal. He looked incredibly, profoundly proud.
"Are you okay, Claire?" her father asked softly, placing a warm, protective hand on her shoulder.
"I am, Dad," Claire smiled warmly, genuine tears of absolute joy and pure relief finally falling from her eyes. "I really am."
"You saved our company today," her father smiled back, gently kissing her forehead. "The board of directors just officially voted to strip Ethan of all his titles. We are completely free of him, and our assets are entirely protected."
Claire turned to look at the beautiful private jet. She wasn't a broken, humiliated wife crying over a lost relationship. She was a brilliant, highly educated woman who had just executed a flawless corporate takedown.
"The pilot is ready whenever you are, ma'am," her lead bodyguard said respectfully.
