Chapter 9 - The Eviction of the Groom

"Mark Vance," one of the officers barked, slapping cuffs on the weeping groom. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit mortgage fraud, identity theft, and grand larceny."
"No! Please!" Mark wailed pathetically, his tailored black tuxedo completely ruined by the mud. "I didn't sign the papers! My mother did it! I am a victim!"
"You were going to let her take the fall!" Beatrice shrieked from the grass, completely turning on her own son to save herself. "You are just as guilty as I am, you ungrateful brat!"
The mother and son completely imploded, screaming and blaming each other like feral rats on a sinking ship.
The wealthy guests, entirely disgusted by the massive federal crimes they had just witnessed, quietly gathered their belongings and filtered out of the venue. They wanted absolutely nothing to do with the toxic, ruined family.
The officers dragged the weeping, hysterical groom and his mother away from the beautiful floral arches, throwing them into the back of arriving police cruisers. Their desperate, pathetic cries faded down the street, ending their reign of psychological cruelty, arrogance, and greed forever.
The luxurious outdoor wedding venue fell into a profound, heavy, and incredibly peaceful silence.
