Chapter 2 - The Cold Marble Impact

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing fall felt like an eternity.

Sloane crashed violently onto the ground floor of the patio. The sickening, echoing crack of her rigid grey medical brace snapping against the pristine white marble floor was absolutely deafening. The sheer physical agony that exploded through her spine was blinding. She lay completely paralyzed on the cold stone, staring up at the bright blue sky, entirely unable to move her arms or her legs.

Almost immediately, heavy footsteps approached. But they weren't rushing to help her.

Una, her sixty-year-old mother, stepped into view. Una was an elegant, terrifyingly cold woman, her blonde hair styled in a flawless updo, wearing a chic navy blue lace V-neck evening gown with heavy diamond earrings. She knelt over Sloane, but she didn't cradle her daughter's head. She gripped Sloane's shoulder with profound, toxic annoyance.

Standing right beside her was Garrison, Sloane's sixty-year-old father. Wearing a classic black tuxedo and a crisp black bowtie, he didn't even drop to his knees. He looked down at his severely injured daughter, his face twisted in absolute embarrassment.

High above them on the stone balcony, Delphine leaned over the railing. She was smiling a brilliant, sociopathic smile, her smartphone still recording the entire devastating scene below.

"It was for views!" Delphine laughed brightly from the balcony, completely devoid of human empathy. "You always ruin everything, Sloane!"
