Chapter 5 - The Glowing Screen

The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing betrayal paralyzed Sloane far more than her broken spine ever could.

Her mother released her bruised arm in disgust, standing up to go find a security guard who could quietly haul Sloane away like a bag of garbage. Her father turned his back, checking his luxury watch.

But an extreme close-up captured a tiny, life-altering detail on the white marble floor.

When Sloane had plummeted from the balcony, her smartphone had fallen from her dress pocket. It was resting just inches from her right hand, the screen completely cracked but still highly functional.

Suddenly, the shattered screen lit up. It was a high-priority, encrypted message from the estate’s private security firm.

The notification boldly read: MOTION DETECTED - BALCONY CAMERA 4 - FOOTAGE UPLOADED TO MASTER CLOUD.

Sloane’s terrified, agonizing expression slowly began to shift. The helpless, broken victim completely vanished from her eyes, violently replaced by a cold, calculating, and absolutely silent resolve.

To understand the sheer, catastrophic mistake her family had just made, one had to look at the legal deed to the grand historic estate. Una, Garrison, and Delphine paraded around the property as if they owned it. They hosted lavish parties and bragged to their elite friends about the architecture.

But they didn't own a single brick.

Sloane owned the estate. She had purchased it entirely with her own corporate money, allowing her parents to live there out of a misplaced sense of family loyalty. And just yesterday, she had completely upgraded the property's security system.

"They caught it all on camera," Sloane whispered, her voice quiet, decisive, and entirely lethal.

👉 Sloane subtly tapped her cracked phone screen, triggering an automated sequence that would destroy her family's lives.
