Chapter 4 - The Apathetic Father

The heavy, suffocating tension on the pristine white marble patio was absolutely horrifying.
Garrison stepped fully into the frame, his polished leather shoes stopping just inches from Sloane’s helpless, paralyzed hand. A medium close-up captured the sixty-year-old father casually adjusting his expensive tuxedo cuffs. He looked down at his daughter, who was currently gasping for air on the cold stone, with absolute, terrifying apathy.
He wasn't looking at a severely injured human being. He was looking at a massive inconvenience to his social standing.
"Stop making a scene," Garrison commanded, his voice authoritative, flat, and completely devoid of any parental love. "The rehearsal dinner starts in twenty minutes. Someone get her to a car and hide her in the back seat before the caterers see this."
He was entirely dismissing her severe, potentially permanent spinal trauma just to protect the aesthetic of his golden child's wedding. He didn't want an ambulance with flashing lights ruining the upscale ambiance of the historic estate.
Up on the balcony, Delphine was still holding her smartphone. A tight close-up captured the bride looking directly into her glowing phone screen. She adjusted her blonde hair perfectly, making sure her angles were flawless. She showed zero remorse, treating the horrific, attempted murder of her own sister as a wildly successful social media stunt.
"Best rehearsal dinner ever," Delphine smirked softly into the camera, already imagining the millions of views her cruel video was going to generate on TikTok.
