Chapter 3 - The Mother's Disgust

The physical agony radiating through Sloane’s shattered back brace was entirely eclipsed by the psychological torture unfolding above her.
A medium close-up captured Una leaning in close to Sloane's face. Any normal mother would be screaming for an ambulance, weeping over her paralyzed child. But Una’s facial micro-expressions revealed absolutely nothing but deep, toxic irritation and profound anger. Her manicured fingers dug aggressively into Sloane’s bare arm, tightening her grip like a vice.
"Get up," Una hissed, her voice a freezing, cold tone that carried absolutely no maternal warmth. "You're embarrassing the family. The guests are going to see you lying here like a pathetic animal."
A tight close-up captured Sloane’s face. She winced in pure agony, her breathing shallow, rapid, and entirely unnatural. Her chest heaved as she desperately tried to command her lower body to move, but there was nothing. Absolute, terrifying nothingness.
Her dark eyes widened in quiet, restrained terror as she finally realized the apocalyptic severity of the damage. The fall hadn't just hurt her; it had destroyed her already fragile spine.
"Mom..." Sloane gasped, her voice breaking into a terrified, breathless whisper. "I can't feel my legs."
Una didn't gasp. She didn't cover her mouth in shock. She simply rolled her eyes, letting out a heavy, theatrical sigh of pure disgust.

To understand this absolute, monstrous apathy, one had to know the family dynamic. Delphine had always been the golden child, the perfect, beautiful daughter who could do no wrong. Sloane was the workaholic, the quiet sister who funded the family’s lavish lifestyle but was never deemed "good enough" for their high-society circle.
👉 The patriarch of the family stepped forward, preparing to deliver a command that would shatter Sloane's heart forever.
