Chapter 7 - The Unveiling

My father physically stumbled backward, crashing into his gold dining chair.
"That is an outrageous lie!" Dad roared, his voice cracking with pure desperation. He pointed a shaking finger at the banker. "My mother left Meadowgate to our family when she passed away three years ago! We hold the deed!"
Daniel Mercer, my ruthless attorney, finally stepped forward. He unlatched his black leather briefcase, the sharp click echoing loudly in the suffocating silence.
"You don't hold the deed, Richard," Daniel stated coldly, his voice vibrating with absolute authority. He pulled out a thick stack of notarized, official county title records and slammed them onto the nearest dining table.
"Your mother did not leave this estate to the family," Daniel continued, looking directly at my pale, terrified parents. "Your mother knew you were deeply irresponsible with money. She knew Claire was a manipulative narcissist who would bankrupt this property in a month. She bypassed all of you."
Claire clutched her chest, her custom silver gown trembling. "No! No, that's impossible! Who owns it?!"
Daniel picked up the top document, holding it up so the entire room of investors and relatives could see the heavy state seals.

"The sole, legal owner of the Meadowgate Estate is a private corporation named Willow Gate Holdings," Daniel announced flawlessly. "And as of this afternoon, the bank verified the exclusive, one-hundred-percent shareholder of that corporation."
👉 Claire frantically scanned the room to see who had bought her empire out from under her, completely blind to the woman standing in the marinara sauce.
