Chapter 8 - The Bookkeeper's Empire

"Who is Willow Gate Holdings?!" Claire shrieked hysterically, completely losing her mind in front of her wealthy peers. "Who stole my company's headquarters?!"
I slowly wiped the remaining marinara sauce off my shoe with a napkin. I dropped the stained cloth onto the marble floor, straightened my department-store dress, and stepped forward into the center of the ballroom.
"I did," I said softly.
The entire ballroom went completely, painfully silent.
Claire spun around, staring at me as if I had just grown a second head. "You? You're just a bookkeeper!"
"I am the sole owner of Willow Gate Holdings," I stated, my voice completely calm, resonating with a cinematic, titanium power I had kept hidden for three agonizing years.
My mother let out a horrific, breathless gasp, covering her mouth with both hands as the reality of my words crashed down on her.
"Grandma left the estate entirely to me," I explained, looking directly into my father's horrified eyes. "She made me swear to protect the property and the staff from your reckless spending. I set up the corporate trust to hide my name because I foolishly wanted to believe that working together could heal this broken family. I allowed Claire to operate her event planning business here under a temporary management agreement. I paid the bills. I balanced the books. I kept you all afloat."
"You lied to us!" Claire screamed, tears of pure, humiliating rage ruining her expensive makeup. "You let me build my brand here!"
May you like
"You didn't build anything," I replied coldly.
👉 Claire thought losing the loan was the worst thing that could happen tonight, but the trap I built was about to completely snap shut.
