Chapter 3 - The Secret Screen

The truth was, Corey wasn't a millionaire at all. His business had secretly gone bankrupt six months ago.
The only reason Trevor, Callie, and their extended family were currently standing in the lobby of Maui’s most expensive, elite luxury resort was because Corey had begged his mother for a favor. He had pleaded with Evelyn to grant them the ultra-exclusive "Family & Friends" corporate sponsorship, applying an 85% discount to their three luxury oceanfront penthouse suites.
He had manipulated his mother's kindness just to impress Trevor. And in return, he let Trevor treat her like garbage.
Evelyn walked smoothly through the heavy mahogany doors into the resort's private, restricted management office. She sat down at her sleek, high-tech computer terminal, her deep teal blazer perfectly pressed.
She wasn't crying. She was executing justice.
Evelyn opened the employee sponsorship system. She typed in Corey’s reservation number. The screen populated with the names of Trevor, Callie, and the rest of the arrogant family members waiting in the lobby. The total bill for their two-week stay was currently listed at a heavily discounted $8,000.
With a completely composed, emotionless expression, Evelyn clicked the 'Modify' button.
She highlighted the 'Executive VIP Sponsorship' tag on the reservation. The camera could practically zoom in on her perfectly manicured finger as she selected the confirmation control to delete it.
DISCOUNT REVOKED.
The payment system automatically refreshed. The screen flashed as the reservation was instantly recalculated to the full, premium holiday rate. The new total for the three penthouses blinked in bold red numbers: $54,000.
