Chapter 5 - The Gathering Storm

The other family members—an older man in a beige jacket and a middle-aged woman in a blue floral dress—exchanged frightened, embarrassed glances as Trevor’s screaming echoed through the luxurious lobby.
"I want the Managing Director out here right this second!" Trevor demanded, banging her fists on the marble counter. "I will have you all fired! I will ruin this resort on social media!"
The resort employee didn't flinch. He maintained his polite, impenetrable customer-service smile.
"The Managing Director is currently preparing for our evening events, ma'am," the employee replied smoothly. "However, she will be speaking at the oceanfront welcome ceremony on the grand lawn in twenty minutes. I suggest you take your grievances directly to her there."
Trevor sneered, grabbing her beige designer handbag with a vicious yank.
"Oh, you better believe I will!" Trevor snapped. "I am going to march right up to that stage, and I am going to make sure the Managing Director fires that useless, slow receptionist who was standing here earlier! We’ll see who carries the bags then!"
Corey’s blood ran completely cold. His heart hammered violently against his ribs.
He frantically pulled out his cell phone, stepping away from Callie to desperately dial his mother's number. It went straight to voicemail. He texted her, his thumbs flying across the screen in a pure, breathless panic.
Mom, please. Turn the discount back on. They are going to leave me.
