Chapter 6 - Meredith Had Been Trying to Make June Look Dangerous for Months
The USB contained eighteen clips.
None as severe as the iron incident.
Together, they formed a pattern.
Meredith creating distress.
June arriving afterward.
Meredith positioning herself as witness.
One video showed Meredith knocking a bottle off a side table after June left the room.
When June returned, Meredith said:
“You really need to be more careful.”
Another showed Meredith loosening the edge of a fitted crib sheet.
June noticed it before putting Elara down and fixed it.
Another showed Meredith intentionally placing June’s phone in a laundry basket, then later telling Caleb:
“She’s constantly losing things.”
That sounded trivial.
It wasn’t.
Meredith had been creating a narrative.
June was distracted.
June was unstable.
June was careless.
June was too emotionally attached to Elara.
Then Meredith started saying something more dangerous:
“I think June is becoming possessive.”
Caleb remembered every conversation now.
He had listened.
Not believed fully.
But listened enough that when Meredith shouted—
SHE SNAPPED
—the accusation landed in soil already prepared.
That had been the point.
The lie did not begin when Caleb entered the nursery.
