Chapter 11 - Jason Did Not Get to Undo the Adoption Because His Mother Changed Her Mind

This became important when our marriage finally collapsed.

Jason said during one argument:

“Maybe adoption was a mistake.”

I went:

cold.

“What?”

“I was trying to help.”

“You became her father.”

“I know.”

“You don’t get to resign because your mother finds blood more convenient.”

Legally, he could not simply:

undo adoption

because the marriage became difficult.

He remained:

Sophia’s legal father.

Responsibilities.

Rights.

Child support.

Custody considerations.

All subject to:

family court

and:

Sophia’s best interests.

His biological connection was irrelevant to:

the existence of the parent-child relationship.

That fact infuriated:

Diane.

She had emotionally treated adoption as:

temporary membership.

Law treated it as:

family.

For once, I appreciated how boring legal permanence can be.
