Chapter 9 - Diane’s Real Fear Was Not Sophia—It Was Divorce
Diane’s attorney later explained something I had not:
known.
Diane was not simply obsessed with:
blood.
She was afraid of:
divorce.
Evan’s first marriage had ended badly.
Property disputes.
Lawyers.
Threats.
Diane concluded that family assets needed to stay:
inside the bloodline.
Then she looked at:

Jason and I had been arguing.
Not publicly.
Enough that she noticed.
She feared that if Sophia remained a beneficiary and Jason and I divorced:

“Keep it to descendants.”
The attorney asked whether adopted descendants should be included.
Diane said:
“No.”
Specific.
Intentional.

He did not object.
Why?
He told himself the trust was:
Mom’s decision.
But there was another reason.
He had begun considering:
divorce.
