Chapter 13 - Jason Chose Diane’s Version of Family

Our separation began:

nine days

after the brunch.

Not because I wanted revenge.

Because Jason refused to say:

Sophia is my daughter

without adding:

but.

I asked once.

Directly.

“Do you consider Sophia your daughter exactly the same way you would if she were biological?”

He stared.

Long enough that the marriage ended:

there.

Finally:

“I love her.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

“I’ve done everything for her.”

“Not what I asked.”

“Rachel.”

“Answer.”

He looked away.

“I think blood matters.”

There.

At least:

truth.

I moved out with Sophia temporarily.

We followed legal process.

No child kidnapping.

No dramatic mansion lockout.

Attorneys.

Temporary arrangements.

Sophia had a therapist.

Jason requested:

parenting time.

This surprised me.

Part of him still loved:

her.

That contradiction was real.

He could believe blood mattered and still have genuine attachment.

Humans are messy.

The court did not care about:

Diane’s philosophy.

It cared about:

Sophia’s relationship with her legal father,

stability,

safety,

parenting capacity.

Jason initially had:

regular visitation.

Then Sophia began resisting overnights after Diane repeatedly questioned her about:

our separation.

Restrictions were added.

Jason had to decide whether maintaining access to his mother during his parenting time mattered more than:

Sophia feeling secure.

For several months, he chose:

wrong.

Then something changed.

Maybe therapy.

Maybe consequences.

Maybe loneliness.

He began setting limits with:

Diane.

Late.

May you like

Still meaningful.
