Chapter 12 - Rosalie Did Not Leave Him in One Brave Moment

She moved into my house three days after Christmas.
Alone.
Just as she originally planned.
But leaving was not clean.
One morning she told me she was filing for separation.
That evening she said maybe counseling could fix everything.
The next day she cried because Callum sent a photograph of their first apartment.
Then he sent:
I’m getting help.
Then:
Your mother always hated me.
Then:
She planned this.
Then:
You destroyed our family.
Rosalie almost went back twice.
I did not call her weak.
I did not hide her keys.
I did not make choices for her because Callum had already done enough of that.
Instead I asked:
“Do you feel safe going back?”
The answer was always no.
Eventually that answer became more important than guilt.
An attorney helped her arrange communication through formal channels.
A therapist helped her separate missing the marriage she wanted from returning to the marriage she actually had.
There was no cinematic morning where Rosalie woke completely free of doubt.
There were simply more days when she chose not to return.
May you like
Eventually those days became her life.
