Chapter 10 - Damian Had to Own the Slap and the Kick

Damian was furious when he entered the dining room.
That explained his actions.
It did not erase them.
He slapped Vanessa while holding Emma.
Vanessa had just humiliated his daughter.
But at that exact second, she was not attacking him physically.
The slap was retaliation.
Damian admitted that.
Then he turned to leave.
Richard threw a glass at his back.
When Damian returned and kicked Richard, he believed another attack might come.
Still, he could have created distance instead.
During the legal review, Damian said:
“I was protecting my daughter, but I was also angry enough to want him on the floor.”
His attorney looked at him.
“That distinction matters.”
“I know.”
Damian did not want Emma growing up with a father who justified every violent reaction by saying:
I did it for you.
Adults had already placed too much responsibility on her.

She would not carry his choices too.
