The heavy, agonizing silence in the penthouse was dripping with cinematic tension.
Elena stood completely paralyzed, watching the unbelievable sight of this brutal, scarred man allowing her child to comfort him in his opulent office.
She hadn't brought her daughter to Jude’s penthouse voluntarily. She was a captive. But she wasn't kidnapped by Jude’s syndicate. She was dragged there by her own husband, Marcus.
Marcus was a mid-level corporate executive who had secretly embezzled two million dollars from one of Jude's offshore shell companies to fund his severe gambling addiction. When Jude's enforcers finally caught him this morning, Marcus had violently dragged Elena and Brinley out of their beds and brought them to the penthouse, intending to use his own family as human collateral to beg for his life.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors of the penthouse burst open.
Marcus was violently shoved into the office by two massive, heavily armed syndicate enforcers. His expensive suit was torn, and his face was bleeding from a fresh beating.
"Jude! Please!" Marcus wailed pathetically, dropping to his knees on the expensive rug. "I can get the money back! Just give me a week! I'll leave my wife and kid here as collateral! You can do whatever you want with them!"
