Chapter 7 - The Unseen Choice

"I am not going to kill you, Elena," Jude whispered, his raspy voice softening into something deeply human. "And nobody in this city is ever going to touch your daughter."

Elena gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.

Jude walked back to his dark marble desk. He didn't pick up the gun. He opened the top drawer and pulled out a massive, thick stack of banded hundred-dollar bills. He placed it directly next to the weapon.

"That is fifty thousand dollars," Jude stated smoothly. "There is a private car waiting downstairs. It will take you to the airport. You can take the cash, get on a plane, and disappear. You will never hear from me or my organization again."

Elena stared at the money, completely paralyzed in absolute disbelief.

"Or," Jude continued, his dark eyes locking onto hers with intense, unbreakable vulnerability. "You can stay."

Elena stopped breathing.

"I own three legal corporations in this city," Jude explained quietly. "I need an executive assistant who isn't terrified of me. You get full medical benefits, a secure apartment in my building, and Brinley gets the best private education in New York. You will be entirely protected."

Elena looked at the fifty thousand dollars. It was an escape. It was freedom.
