Chapter 5 - The Fake King

While the surgeons fought to save Vincent’s life in the hidden office, the grand ballroom of the mansion was filled with the city's most dangerous capos and lieutenants.

Dominic stood at the front of the room, wearing a sharp, custom-tailored gray suit. He looked like the picture of perfect, arrogant confidence. He was putting on a cinematic, flawless performance of a grieving family member and a strong, decisive leader.

Sitting in a chair near the front, surrounded by Dominic’s loyal guards, was Clara.

Clara was a beautiful woman in her thirties, wearing a simple black dress. Her face was pale, and she was trembling violently. Dominic had dragged her down to the ballroom by her hair just twenty minutes ago, whispering that he had finally "taken care of the problem" upstairs and that she was going to smile and play the role of the loyal mafia wife.

"Gentlemen," Dominic announced loudly, his voice echoing over the quiet murmurs of the dangerous men. "We are facing a crisis. I have just received word that rival cartels breached our upper perimeter. They ambushed Vincent in his office."

The entire ballroom gasped. The capos looked at each other in sheer, unadulterated shock.

"Our boss is dead," Dominic lied smoothly, faking a heavy, dramatic sigh.
