Chapter 5 - The Stolen Fortune

Marcus snatched the tablet from the Chief’s hands, his chest heaving with pure panic.

"Freeze the accounts right now!" Marcus roared into the microphone. "My wife just robbed my vault! Shut everything down!"

"Mr. Vance," the bank manager’s voice trembled on the other end. "I... I can't do that, sir. The joint accounts are already empty."

"What do you mean empty?!" Marcus screamed, slamming his fist onto the mahogany desk. "There was forty million dollars in liquid capital in those accounts!"

"Mrs. Vance executed a series of massive wire transfers at 3:00 AM," the manager explained frantically. "She utilized the emergency corporate bylaws you signed when you founded the company. Because the transfers were initiated from a verified admin account to an offshore holding firm in the Cayman Islands, they cleared instantly. We cannot reverse them. You have zero liquid assets, sir."

Marcus’s knees completely gave out. He collapsed into his expensive leather office chair, staring blankly at the empty steel vault in the wall.

Natalie hadn't just survived her agonizing, bloody miscarriage alone. She had used that horrific trauma as the final catalyst to execute a flawless, untraceable escape plan. She had blinded his security, emptied his untraceable vault, and legally siphoned forty million dollars of his liquid wealth to vanish forever.

She had left him with a broken hand, an empty bathtub, and a picture of the child he let die.

"Call the police," Marcus whispered, a pathetic, broken shell of his former self. "Tell them she stole from me."
