Chapter 8 - The Queen's Downfall

The cinematic realization crashed over Mateo’s hardened exterior.
The woman he was sleeping next to hadn't just been slowly paralyzing him. She had murdered an innocent doctor—a man who had tried to save his life. She had destroyed Gia’s family simply to secure her own path to the throne.
A dark, demonic, and utterly terrifying rage settled into Mateo's soul.
"Come with me," Mateo whispered.
Upstairs in the VIP office, Isabella was pouring herself a glass of expensive champagne. She was already celebrating. With the coach dead, the secret was buried forever. Tomorrow, she would increase the dosage of the neurotoxin. By next week, Mateo would be entirely paralyzed, and she would assume full control of the millions in the syndicate's offshore accounts.
The glass office doors swung open.
Isabella turned, a brilliant, fake smile on her face. "Dante, is it finished—"
Her voice died in her throat. The champagne flute slipped from her manicured fingers, shattering across the hardwood floor.
Standing in the doorway was Mateo. And standing right behind him, perfectly alive and unharmed, was Gia.
"Mateo!" Isabella gasped, stumbling backward, her face turning chalk white. "What... what is she doing up here?! Dante said she was an assassin!"
Mateo didn't scream. The terrifying restraint in his posture was absolute. He walked slowly toward her, pulling a small, dark glass bottle from his pocket. It was the liniment oil.
"Rub this on my back, Isabella," Mateo commanded softly.

Isabella stared at the bottle as if it were a live grenade. "I... I can't. My hands are cramping. Let the nurse do it."
