Chapter 9 - The Poisoned Trap

"I said, rub it on my back," Mateo repeated, his voice dropping to a lethal, echoing rumble. "Without gloves."
Isabella began to hyperventilate. She knew that if the highly concentrated neurotoxin touched her bare skin, it would seep into her bloodstream and cause permanent, agonizing nerve damage within hours.
"No," Isabella sobbed, dropping to her knees in her crimson dress. The arrogant, untouchable queen completely shattered into a pathetic, cornered coward. "Please, Mateo! I didn't want to do it! The rival cartel forced me! They said if I didn't paralyze you, they would kill my family!"
"You did it for the throne," Mateo replied, completely devoid of human empathy.
He didn't touch her. He didn't have to.
Mateo pulled out his radio and summoned his fiercely loyal inner circle. Within seconds, six heavily armed men flooded the VIP office.
"Take her," Mateo ordered, pointing at his weeping fiancée. "Take her and Dante to the warehouse. Strip her offshore accounts. Transfer every single dollar she stole back into the syndicate. Then hand them both over to the cartel they were secretly working for. Tell them their spies are no longer welcome in my city."
"No! Mateo, please!" Isabella shrieked like a feral animal, kicking and thrashing wildly as the massive guards grabbed her by the arms.
"You took a good man's life," Mateo said coldly as she was dragged toward the door. "Now you lose yours."
Isabella’s hysterical, pathetic cries faded down the metal stairs, ending her reign of greed and cruelty forever. She would spend the rest of her miserable life locked in a rival cartel's dungeon.
