Chapter 10 - The Walk of Shame

The silence in the grand ballroom was completely absolute. Chloe stood in the center of the marble floor, shaking uncontrollably in her white lace dress. She had no husband. She had no trust fund.
And she had a two-million-dollar bill under her own name.
The wedding planner stepped forward, flanked by the venue's heavy security team. "Miss Adams, since the Vance family card has been declined, we require your personal payment immediately. Or we will be pressing criminal fraud charges."
Chloe collapsed to her knees, sobbing hysterically as the elite guests she had tried to impress pulled out their phones to record her absolute ruin.
Eleanor didn't smile. She didn't gloat. The older woman simply looked down at the weeping girl who had tried to steal her family's legacy. With quiet, majestic dignity, Eleanor turned around and walked out of the ballroom, escorted by the Marine in his dress blues, her empire perfectly secure.

The venue security firmly grabbed Chloe by her arms, dragging the screaming, broke woman out the service exit, leaving her in the cold night with absolutely nothing but the dress she was wearing.
If you were Julian, would you have waited to see how she treated your mother, or would you have canceled the wedding before it even started?
