Chapter 2 - The Proxy Bride

Chloe turned back to her wealthy friends, laughing as she took a sip from her crystal champagne flute.

She felt absolutely untouchable. Just two hours ago, Chloe had signed the legal paperwork for a proxy marriage to Julian, Eleanor’s billionaire son who was currently deployed overseas on a highly classified military contract. Because Julian couldn't be there, Chloe had used his limitless black card to throw a two-million-dollar solo wedding gala for herself just to show off to New York high society.

She hated Eleanor. She thought the older woman was just a dependent, a relic of the past who lived off Julian’s immense fortune.

"Finally," Chloe sneered to her bridesmaids. "I am the lady of the estate now. I'm going to put that old hag in a cheap nursing home by Monday."

Chloe signaled the frantic wedding planner, demanding that they bring out the fifty-thousand-dollar caviar spread immediately. She was drunk on power, fully believing that her new marriage certificate gave her absolute authority over the family’s sprawling empire.

She didn't know that Julian’s wealth came with strings.
