Chapter 3 - The Stroke of a Pen

Down the long, quiet hallway, far away from the pulsating music of the gala, Eleanor stepped into a dark mahogany study.

She didn't shed a single tear. Her breathing was slow, natural, and remarkably calm. The sixty-year-old woman walked over to a massive vintage desk and unlocked the top drawer with a small silver key.

She pulled out a thick, heavily bound legal document.

It was the master trust agreement. The absolute financial failsafe.

An elegant, steady hand reached out and picked up a heavy, black fountain pen. She unscrewed the cap. The silence in the room was absolute, broken only by the sharp, deliberate sound of the fountain pen scratching firmly against the thick parchment paper.

She signed her signature with flawless, lethal precision.

Eleanor closed the folder, picked up the secure landline on the desk, and dialed a direct number to the Pentagon. The line was answered on the first ring.
