Chapter 1 - The Backyard Bully

The sunny suburban backyard was completely packed with family and friends for a typical Sunday BBQ. Smoke drifted lazily from the massive grill, and children laughed near the swimming pool. It was supposed to be a relaxing, perfect afternoon.

But near the patio, the atmosphere had violently shifted into terrifying, suffocating tension.

Derek, a heavily muscular man in his thirties wearing a tight gray shirt, abruptly stepped into the center of the crowd. With blinding, aggressive speed, he reached out and tightly grabbed Evelyn’s arm.

Evelyn was in her thirties, wearing a simple white tank top and blue jeans. Her hair was completely soaked from accidentally falling into the shallow end of the pool moments earlier. She was entirely minding her own business, but Derek, her arrogant brother-in-law, had decided to make a public spectacle of her to stroke his own massive ego.

"Sit down, sweetheart," Derek barked loudly, squeezing her arm with painful force, trying to physically force her into a lawn chair in front of forty guests.

Right behind Evelyn, her husband, Ryan—a man in a light blue shirt—stepped up angrily.

"Derek, let go of my wife right now!" Ryan shouted, clenching his fists.

Derek just laughed, a cruel, mocking sound. He thought Evelyn was a fragile, submissive housewife. He had bullied her for years, assuming Ryan was the only one who would ever defend her.

But a tight cinematic close-up captured Evelyn’s face. She didn't scream. She didn't cry. She didn't even flinch. She stayed perfectly, chillingly calm, staring coldly at Derek's massive hand gripping her arm.

Suddenly, Marissa, Derek’s wife, screamed from the background.
