Chapter 5 - The Hidden Truth

Evelyn maintained the agonizing pressure on Derek's arm, staring directly into his panicked, tear-filled eyes.

"You didn't grab my arm because you wanted me to sit down, Derek," Evelyn whispered lethally, ensuring only he could hear her. "You grabbed me because you were trying to stop me from walking toward the garage."

Derek’s face went completely, violently pale. He stopped thrashing.

"I know what's in the red toolbox, Derek," Evelyn continued, her voice devoid of any human empathy.

Ryan stepped closer, noticing the sudden shift in the atmosphere. "Evelyn? What is she talking about?"

Evelyn finally released the armbar. She stood up gracefully, smoothing out her wet white tank top, completely unbothered by the violent physical exertion. She looked down at the weeping, humiliated man on the patio deck.

"Tell your wife what you hid in the garage before the party started," Evelyn commanded, pointing a firm finger at Derek.

Marissa pushed through the crowd, her green top stained with spilled wine from the chaos. "Derek? What is she talking about? What is in the toolbox?"

Derek scrambled backward like a cornered rat, clutching his bruised shoulder, shaking his head frantically. "Nothing! She's crazy! She just assaulted me!"

Evelyn didn't argue. She turned on her heel, walking purposefully through the shocked crowd, heading directly toward the open doors of the large suburban garage.
