Chapter 7 - The Cornered Rat

Marissa stood completely paralyzed in the garage, staring blindly at the forged divorce papers. The man she had loved, the man who had bullied everyone around him to assert his dominance, was nothing but a calculated, manipulative parasite preparing to destroy her life.
"No..." Marissa choked out, heavy tears finally spilling from her eyes.
Derek suddenly burst into the garage, clutching his bruised arm, his face flushed red with unadulterated fury. He realized his secret stash had been found. His master plan had just violently collapsed into dust.
"Give me that!" Derek shrieked like a banshee, lunging aggressively toward his weeping wife to snatch the folder.
But Ryan stepped directly in front of his sister.
"Don't you dare touch her," Ryan growled, his fists clenched, the protective brother fully awakened.
"This is my house!" Derek screamed hysterically, entirely losing his mind. "I signed the papers! You can't take the money! I earned it dealing with this pathetic family for five years!"
Evelyn stepped out from behind the workbench, the cold, lethal MMA fighter returning.
"You didn't earn anything, Derek," Evelyn said smoothly. "And you definitely don't own this house."
Derek sneered, trying to mask his panic. "I have the deed! It's notarized!"
"It's forged," Evelyn corrected flawlessly. "And forging a signature on a real estate transfer of this magnitude isn't just a divorce dispute. It's felony wire fraud and grand larceny."
Evelyn reached into her wet blue jeans and pulled out her cell phone.
