Chapter 4 - The Old Man's Threat

"Have it your way, you stupid peasant," Richard mocked, dialing the numbers on his glowing screen. "Say goodbye to Lily."

Suddenly, a heavy, gloved hand clamped down onto Richard’s wrist with bone-crushing force.

Richard gasped, dropping his phone into the snow. He spun around furiously, coming face-to-face with Arthur Vance. Arthur’s sharp jawline was locked tight, his dark eyes radiating a terrifying, lethal authority.

"Step away from the car," Arthur commanded quietly. His voice didn't need to be loud to project absolute, undeniable power.

Richard yanked his arm back, rubbing his wrist. He looked Arthur up and down, seeing an older man in a plain wool coat. Richard entirely failed to recognize the billionaire construction mogul whose face had been on the cover of Forbes magazine.

"Who the hell are you, grandpa?" Richard spat arrogantly, puffing out his chest. "Mind your own business before I have you arrested for assault. I'm a multi-millionaire real estate developer. I own half this town."

"You don't own the asphalt you're standing on," Arthur replied smoothly, completely immune to the younger man's temper tantrum.

Arthur raised his hand. Two massive, heavily armed private security contractors stepped out from behind Arthur’s armored Maybach parked across the lot. They flanked Richard instantly, their hands resting on their holstered weapons.
