Chapter 7 - The Christmas Morning Meeting

"Sarah," Arthur whispered, a dark, demonic promise of justice vibrating in his tone. "Does Richard have a final contract signing scheduled for tomorrow morning?"

"Yes," Sarah answered, confused. "He bragged about it when he threw me out. He said he was going to finalize a fifty-million-dollar merger with a billionaire in Philadelphia."

Arthur smiled. It was the cold, terrifying smile of an apex predator who had just locked the cage.

The next morning, Christmas Day, the Vance Estate was completely silent.

At exactly 9:00 AM, Richard’s black Porsche SUV pulled up to the front gates. Richard stepped out wearing a flawless, custom-tailored Italian suit. He strutted up the marble steps, carrying a leather briefcase, entirely confident that he was about to become one of the most powerful developers on the East Coast.

Arthur’s butler opened the doors and escorted Richard into the grand study.

"Mr. Vance will be right with you," the butler said quietly, closing the heavy oak doors behind him.

Richard poured himself a glass of expensive scotch from the crystal decanter on the desk, admiring the billionaire's wealth. He thought he had completely won. He thought Sarah was freezing in a car, and his empire was secure.
