Chapter 3 - The Red Bag

The heavy, suffocating silence in the first-class cabin was absolutely deafening.
The professional flight attendants standing in the galley exchanged incredibly tense, panicked glances. They knew Richard Bennett. He was notoriously cruel, frequently screaming at the crew and demanding free upgrades. They expected Captain Elizabeth to apologize and force the quiet teenager into the aisle seat to avoid a massive corporate complaint.
But Zara didn't wait for the captain to negotiate.
With breathtaking, quiet dignity, Zara slowly bent down. She didn't argue. She didn't throw a childish tantrum. She simply picked up her small red travel bag from the carpeted floor.
Richard smiled a vicious, triumphant smile. He snapped his newspaper back open with a loud rustle, believing he had successfully bullied the child into complete submission. He fully expected her to walk down the long aisle toward the economy section, utterly defeated.
But Zara didn't walk toward economy.
She remained standing perfectly still beside row two. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her smartphone.
Captain Elizabeth frowned, her professional calmness beginning to crack. She looked down at the glowing digital manifest tablet in her hand, intending to find Zara an alternative seat. But as her eyes scanned the passenger data, she suddenly froze.
The captain’s eyes stopped dead on the teenager's surname.
