Chapter 5 - The Closing Door

The automated, mechanical hum of the massive aircraft door echoed through the front of the cabin.

The flight attendants, entirely oblivious to the apocalyptic corporate crisis unfolding in row two, began the final departure checks. The heavy main door started moving smoothly toward its frame, preparing to lock the aircraft and seal Richard's stolen victory.

Zara stood perfectly still in the aisle, clutching her small red travel bag. She listened carefully to her father’s calm, decisive instructions over the phone. She didn't say another word. She just nodded her head once, her expressive hazel eyes radiating a fierce, quiet intelligence.

Captain Elizabeth looked frantically from the calmly nodding teenager to the heavy aircraft door slowly swinging shut.

If that door locked, the flight was officially under federal aviation jurisdiction. If Zara was forced to sit in a downgraded seat while her father—the literal owner of the airline—watched the manifest update in real-time from corporate headquarters, Captain Elizabeth’s entire distinguished career would be permanently destroyed in a matter of seconds.

Richard slowly lowered his newspaper.

For the first time since the confrontation began, the smug, arrogant executive noticed the sheer, unfiltered panic radiating from the captain. He frowned, completely confused as to why a seasoned pilot was sweating profusely over a simple seat dispute.
