Chapter 4 - The Phone Call

The cinematic realism of the tension was utterly paralyzing.

Zara held the smartphone to her ear. She didn't look angry; she looked incredibly, dangerously calm.

Richard peeked over the top edge of his newspaper, watching the teenager make the call. A smug, amused smirk rested on his face. He found it absolutely hilarious that the little girl was probably calling her mommy to complain about the mean man on the airplane.

He had absolutely no idea that Zara was calling a man who could completely erase his elite status with a single keystroke.

"Dad," Zara spoke quietly into the phone, her polite voice echoing clearly in the silent cabin. "They took my seat."

A brief, agonizingly heavy silence followed.

Captain Elizabeth’s face lost all of its remaining color. The seasoned pilot actually physically staggered backward, her gold-striped epaulettes shifting as a wave of pure, unadulterated panic washed over her. She frantically looked from the teenager to the arrogant executive, suddenly realizing the catastrophic magnitude of the mistake that was happening on her aircraft.

To understand the sheer, unhinged terror brewing in the captain's eyes, one had to know exactly who Zara's father was.

He wasn't just a wealthy passenger. He was Marcus Coleman—the Chief Operating Officer and majority shareholder of the entire global airline. He owned the planes. He owned the routes. He literally signed Captain Elizabeth's paychecks.
