With only three agonizing seconds left before the massive aircraft door sealed shut, Captain Elizabeth made a split-second, career-saving decision.
She suddenly raised one hand high into the air.
"HOLD THE DOOR!" Captain Elizabeth shouted urgently, her authoritative voice booming with absolute, terrifying desperation across the entire first-class cabin.
The professional flight attendants completely froze in shock. The heavy closing door abruptly stopped, leaving a two-inch gap of open air.
The entire cabin went completely, paralyzingly dead silent.
Richard’s confident, toxic smile violently vanished. His jaw literally unhinged as he stared at the captain. He was an Executive Platinum member; he knew the strict federal protocols. A captain never, ever halted a door closure unless there was a massive, immediate security threat or a catastrophic mechanical failure.
Captain Elizabeth didn't look at the door. She turned incredibly sharply, her crisp navy uniform snapping as she locked her terrified eyes directly onto Richard.
Zara remained perfectly, beautifully calm beside Seat 2A. She lowered her smartphone, slipping it quietly back into the pocket of her dark trousers. She didn't gloat. She simply stood her ground, radiating the quiet, undeniable power of her bloodline.
