Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Promise

Laura took the envelope with shaking hands. She opened it and pulled out a certified cashier's check.
It wasn't for a hundred thousand dollars. It was for five hundred thousand dollars.
"That is your bonus for catching the traitors," Daniel stated, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unbreakable respect. "And I am officially setting up a private trust fund in Annie's name. Her entire college tuition is fully paid for. Medical, dental, living expenses—everything is completely covered for the rest of her life."
Laura collapsed to her knees, hugging Daniel’s neck, weeping with profound, genuine gratitude. Daniel hugged her back, realizing that the greatest asset his company had ever acquired wasn't a merger—it was the fierce loyalty of a mother and daughter.
In the months that followed, Marcus and Evelyn were sentenced to thirty years in a maximum-security federal penitentiary for corporate espionage and wire fraud. They were completely bankrupted and abandoned by their former partners.
Daniel's company thrived, completely free of the toxic, greedy parasites that had tried to destroy it.
A year later, the grand executive office was filled with bright sunlight and loud, happy laughter. Laura sat at her own mahogany desk, reviewing archival documents, completely secure and respected in her new career.
Annie, wearing a beautiful new dress instead of a yellow raincoat, sat at the conference table, happily taping together another puzzle for Daniel.

The billionaire CEO watched them, his heart swelling with an overwhelming, unshakeable peace. The nightmare was completely over, and Daniel finally realized that true loyalty isn't found in billion-dollar contracts—it is found in the brave, observant eyes of a six-year-old girl.
Do you think thirty years in federal prison was enough justice for the corrupt executives, or did the greedy traitors deserve a harsher punishment?
