Chapter 1 - The Yellow Raincoat

The 31st floor of the grand luxury American corporate skyscraper was supposed to be completely secure. A heavy rainstorm lashed against the massive floor-to-ceiling glass windows, illuminating the dark, rainy Chicago skyline. Inside the executive suite, the atmosphere was thick with absolute, high-stakes tension.

Daniel, a handsome, fiercely intense billionaire CEO in his forties, sat behind his dark mahogany desk. He wore a tailored navy suit, a crisp white shirt, and a dark tie. He was exhausted, rubbing his temples next to a heavy blue folder. Tomorrow morning, he was signing a multi-billion-dollar merger that would permanently secure his company's future.

Suddenly, a tiny voice shattered the silence of the most powerful office in the city.

"Please don't be mad that I read it."

Daniel snapped his head up. Standing right in the middle of his luxurious office was a six-year-old girl. She had messy brown hair, wearing a bright yellow raincoat and a small pink backpack. She looked entirely out of place, but she didn't look afraid. She was earnest, observant, and incredibly determined.

Daniel leaned forward, resting his chin on his hand. His sharp, intimidating gaze locked onto the small child.

"You read what?" Daniel asked, his voice calm but undeniably authoritative.

Before the little girl could answer, Laura rushed out of the shadows. She was a woman in her thirties, wearing a navy blue cleaning uniform. She was the night-shift custodian. Her face was pale with absolute, paralyzing terror. She stepped forward anxiously, looking like she wanted the floor to swallow her whole.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Carter!" Laura trembled, her voice cracking with deep, apologetic fear. "I told her to stay in the breakroom! I told her not to touch anything!"

But Annie completely ignored her mother’s panic. The tiny girl in the yellow raincoat stepped right up to the heavy mahogany desk. She reached out and pointed her small finger directly at the open blue folder containing the massive, highly confidential merger contract.

"The part with the seventeen," Annie stated, her innocent voice ringing with pure determination. "Yesterday it said both companies. Now it says just yours."
