Chapter 4 - The Midnight Setup

Daniel didn't panic. He was a billionaire apex predator. He knew that confronting the traitors now would only give them time to call their lawyers and hide their offshore payoffs. He had to catch them in the act, in front of the entire board of directors.
"Laura," Daniel said, walking over to the terrified cleaning woman. "How much do I pay you?"
Laura swallowed hard, entirely intimidated. "Fifteen dollars an hour, sir."
"If you do exactly what I tell you tonight," Daniel stated coldly, "I will give you a hundred thousand dollars in cash by tomorrow afternoon."
Laura’s eyes widened in absolute shock. She looked down at her daughter, tears welling in her eyes. "What... what do you need me to do?"
"I need you to take the original, shredded draft that Annie taped together," Daniel instructed, his tactical mind racing. "And I need you to put it inside the blue folder."
Daniel carefully slid the altered, sabotaged contract out of the blue folder and locked it securely in his personal biometric wall safe.
He then took the taped, shredded draft that Annie had brought in and placed it neatly into the blue presentation folder. He left the folder sitting exactly where the traitors had left it on his mahogany desk.
"When Marcus and Evelyn come in tomorrow morning," Daniel explained, his dark eyes turning blacker than midnight, "they are going to check the folder to make sure I didn't notice the change. When they open it, they are going to see the shredded draft. They are going to panic."
"But won't they just run?" Laura asked nervously.

"No," Daniel smirked, a cold, merciless smile touching his lips. "They are too greedy to run. They will try to print a new copy of the sabotaged contract before the board meeting begins. And that is exactly when I will trap them."
