Chapter 1 - The Shattered Coffee Cup

The heavy paper coffee cup hit the concrete pavement with a violent, wet smack, splattering dark liquid across Isabella’s expensive white designer heels.
The chic, arrogant fiancée didn't care about the stain. She rushed forward under the bright autumn sunlight, her face completely pale with sheer, unadulterated terror. She aggressively grabbed the tiny, fragile wrist of a four-year-old girl wearing a pink floral dress and a matching pink hair bow.
"Get away from him," Isabella hissed viciously, digging her manicured nails into the child’s arm, desperately trying to pull her away from the park bench.
Seated on the cold iron bench was Dominic. The late-thirties mafia boss wore a flawless black three-piece suit, his neck and hands covered in dark, lethal syndicate tattoos. He wore heavy black sunglasses to hide his scarred, sightless eyes. He had been completely blind for four years.
But his reflexes were still terrifyingly sharp.
Instantly, Dominic reached out. His massive, tattooed hand clamped like a steel vise around Isabella’s wrist, violently stopping her in her tracks.
"Let her go," Dominic commanded. His voice was low, vibrating with a cold, absolute authority that made the air in the park drop ten degrees.
Isabella gasped, releasing the child immediately.
Little Lily broke free from the wicked woman's grip. She didn't run away. She stepped closer to the intimidating mafia boss. With absolute, fearless innocence, she gently reached out her tiny hands and touched the blind man’s stubbled face.
"Mama says your eyes aren't dead," Lily whispered softly.
