Chapter 1 - The Stolen Seat

The luxury private jet lounge was an enclave of absolute silence, broken only by the soft clinking of crystal.
Eleanor, an elegant woman in her late sixties with perfectly styled gray hair in a flawless updo, sat quietly by the large floor-to-ceiling windows. She wore a pristine camel coat over a cream blouse, accessorized with a silk patterned scarf. She was holding a chilled glass of vintage champagne, waiting to board the family trip to Switzerland.
Suddenly, a shadow fell over her table.
It was Chloe, her grandson’s twenty-four-year-old fiancée. The attractive blonde woman wore a beige trench coat with expensive designer sunglasses pushed up into her hair. She didn't sit down. She leaned aggressively over Eleanor’s table, projecting an aura of toxic, unearned entitlement.
Standing right behind Chloe was Julian, Eleanor’s thirty-two-year-old grandson. He wore a sharp, dark navy blue coat, his handsome face turned slightly away, unable to look his grandmother in the eye.
"There's no seat for you on the jet, Eleanor," Chloe announced, her voice dripping with arrogant, condescending amusement.
Eleanor’s hand paused. The cinematic realism of the moment froze the air in the lounge. She looked up at the young woman, then shifted her gaze to her grandson.
"Excuse me?" Eleanor asked quietly, her tone perfectly restrained.
