Chapter 7 - The Desperate Break-In

"She took everything!" Julian wailed, dropping his phone onto the tarmac.
Chloe’s mother, realizing the billionaire gravy train had just violently derailed, immediately called a taxi and abandoned her daughter at the airport without a second glance.
"We need the physical bonds!" Chloe panicked, completely abandoning her high-society persona. "The bearer bonds in her penthouse safe! If we get those, we can flee to Mexico before the police realize what happened! Let's go!"
They sprinted through the airport, jumped into Julian’s luxury car, and sped recklessly toward Eleanor’s massive, ultra-secure downtown penthouse.
They burst through the front doors, completely frantic. The elegant, multi-million-dollar apartment was dead silent.
Julian ran directly into Eleanor’s private master study. He violently ripped a classical painting off the wall, revealing a heavy, biometric steel safe hidden behind it.
"Open it!" Chloe screamed, pacing the floor like a caged animal.
Julian, whose thumbprint still had secondary access, pressed his hand against the scanner. The heavy steel door clicked and swung open.
Julian frantically reached inside, expecting to find stacks of untraceable bearer bonds and diamond jewelry.
His stomach violently plummeted. The air completely left his lungs.
The massive safe was entirely, completely empty.
