Chapter 8 - The Stripping of the Queen

"Gabriel, please!" Victoria sobbed pathetically, crawling across the marble floor and desperately reaching for his polished shoes. "It was the rival cartel! They forced me to do it! They said if I didn't help them kill Julian, they would kill my family! I had no choice!"

"You always have a choice," Gabriel replied, completely devoid of human empathy.

He didn't hit her. He didn't have to.

Gabriel reached down and violently grabbed Victoria’s left hand. He didn't care about being gentle. He ripped the massive, flawless five-carat diamond engagement ring right off her finger.

Victoria screamed as the ultimate symbol of her stolen wealth and power was completely stripped away.

"Take her to the basement," Gabriel ordered, his voice a low, echoing rumble of absolute authority.

Five heavily armed syndicate guards immediately stepped out of the shadows. They grabbed the weeping, thrashing woman by her arms, violently hauling her up from the floor.

"No! Please!" Victoria shrieked like a banshee, kicking wildly as her red dress tore against the marble. "I'm your fiancée! You can't put me down there! I love you!"

"You loved the throne," Gabriel corrected her smoothly. "Strip her offshore accounts. Transfer every single dollar she stole back into the syndicate. When you are done extracting every name of her accomplices, hand her over to the federal authorities with the murder weapon. Tell the judge I want her in solitary confinement. Deny her bail."

"Gabriel! Have mercy!" Victoria wailed, dragging her heels as the guards pulled her toward the dark, heavy doors of the estate's underground cells.

"You showed my brother no mercy," Gabriel whispered into the cold air.
