Chapter 1 - The Discarded Mother

The grand dining room of the American mansion was a cinematic display of extreme wealth and high-society elegance. Massive crystal chandeliers cast a warm, expensive glow over long tables set with pristine white tablecloths, crystal glassware, and flickering candles. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the glittering Chicago skyline framed the highly exclusive engagement dinner.

Thirty-six of the city's most powerful elite were mingling, laughing, and clinking champagne glasses.

But near the massive fireplace, the festive atmosphere was violently shattered by a high-stakes, deeply humiliating confrontation.

Vanessa, the thirty-something fiancée of the mansion’s owner, was completely losing her mind. She wore a stunning emerald green silk evening gown with a high slit, her perfectly styled dark hair trembling as she pointed an aggressive, manicured finger at a young maid.

"Get that blanket off her!" Vanessa shouted furiously, her voice slicing completely through the ambient jazz music, causing total shock across the room. "I refuse to have her sitting in my dining room looking like a homeless woman!"

The maid, a twenty-five-year-old woman named Hannah wearing a neat gray and white uniform, stood protectively in front of an elderly woman.

The elderly woman was Teresa. She was seventy-eight years old, wearing a dark blue sequined dress. But she was shivering violently, clutching a worn, pale-blue knitted blanket tightly around her frail shoulders.
