Chapter 5 - The Sitting Room

The cinematic realism of the moment crashed over the dining room with the force of a nuclear bomb.

Luca stopped breathing. The air in his lungs violently turned to absolute ice.

The small sitting room upstairs didn't have a bed. It didn't have heating. It was essentially an oversized storage closet with a single, stiff Victorian sofa. His mother, the matriarch of the family, had been forced to sleep on a cold couch for two months.

"Who cleared out the master wing?" Luca asked Hannah, his voice dropping so low it sounded like a physical threat.

"Miss Vanessa, sir," Hannah revealed flawlessly, completely ignoring the death glare from the fiancée. "She converted the master wing into her new massive walk-in closet and a private pilates studio. She said your mother was a burden and didn't need the space."

Vanessa’s arrogant composure completely, violently fractured into a million pieces.

Panic flooded her face as she realized her massive, highly calculated scheme to displace the elderly matriarch and seize total control of the mansion had just been fully exposed directly to the mafia boss.

"Luca, you're misunderstanding all of this!" Vanessa shrieked like a feral coward, stepping toward him with trembling hands. "I needed the space for my wedding dresses! It was a temporary arrangement!"

Luca felt absolutely zero human empathy for the monster screaming in the emerald green dress.
