Chapter 6 - The Brother's Betrayal

Luca didn't scream at his fiancée. The absolute, terrifying restraint he showed was infinitely more dangerous than a violent outburst.
An extreme, cinematic close-up focused tightly on Luca’s dark eyes. They were burning with an intense, cold, demonic rage. He slowly turned his head, completely looking past Vanessa, and stared directly down the length of the massive dining hall.
Sitting at the far end of the table was Michael, Luca’s younger brother.
Michael had been put in charge of the estate's finances and security while Luca was away. He was the only person with the authority to allow Vanessa to evict their mother from the master wing.
Michael was incredibly pale, sweating profusely in his expensive suit, completely frozen in his chair.
"Michael," Luca stated, his voice deadly calm and echoing violently across the dead-silent room. "Explain what's going on."
"Luca, listen to me," Michael stammered pathetically, standing up slowly. "Vanessa promised me fifty percent of the offshore accounts if I let her take over the house! Mom is old, Luca! She doesn't even know where she is half the time!"
Luca’s strong jaw clenched so hard it looked like it would shatter. His own blood had sold out their mother for a payout from a gold-digger.
Luca didn't need to hear another word. He snapped his fingers.
