Chapter 2 - The Stolen Bedroom

The heavy, cinematic tension in the dining room was completely paralyzing.

The wealthy guests stopped talking entirely, turning to stare at the elderly woman clutching the old knitted blanket. The public humiliation was absolute and suffocating.

Vanessa stepped aggressively closer, completely intoxicated by the power of dominating the elderly woman in front of high society. She reached out, trying to violently snatch the pale-blue blanket right off Teresa's shoulders.

"You are ruining the aesthetic of my engagement party!" Vanessa sneered condescendingly. "Give it to me!"

Hannah, the brave young maid, stepped firmly between the arrogant fiancée and the elderly mother, gently blocking Vanessa's hand.

"She is freezing, Miss Vanessa," Hannah stated quietly, completely refusing to back down.

A tight, cinematic close-up captured Teresa’s face. Her eyes welled with heavy, burning tears of profound heartbreak and shame. She pulled the edges of the worn blanket even tighter across her chest.

"Please don't take it," Teresa whispered, her voice trembling violently as a single tear escaped and rolled down her wrinkled cheek. "I don't have a bed anymore. I need it to sleep."

The entire dining room went breathlessly, dead silent.

Suddenly, a tall, terrifyingly imposing figure stepped completely out of the shadows behind Teresa’s chair.
