Chapter 1 - The Ripped Gown

The grand Charleston luxury estate ballroom was a breathtaking, cinematic display of absolute, old-money wealth. Sparkling crystal chandeliers cast a flawless golden glow over the massive champagne towers and the ocean of white roses. But in the absolute center of the highly polished marble floor, the pristine elegance was violently shattered.
River, a twenty-seven-year-old woman with her blonde hair styled in a flawless updo, was wearing a stunning, custom-made ice-blue silk backless evening gown. She looked like absolute royalty.
But standing directly behind her was Delaney.
Delaney was the wealthy, deeply insecure daughter of the estate's owner. She wore a heavy, sparkling red sequined gown, her face twisted into a mask of pure, toxic jealousy. Without warning, Delaney aggressively lunged forward. She violently grabbed the delicate back panel of River’s ice-blue silk dress and yanked backward with all her strength.
The expensive silk tore with a loud, sickening rip.
Hundreds of tiny, expensive silver beads snapped from the thread, scattering like a hailstorm across the hard marble floor. The entire ballroom of elite, wealthy guests gasped in collective shock.
"Rip it," Delaney sneered maliciously, her voice carrying over the sudden, dead silence of the room.
A medium close-up captured River physically staggering forward. She frantically grabbed the front of her torn dress, desperately pulling the ruined silk against her chest to cover her exposed skin. Her beautiful face burned with sheer, agonizing humiliation.
Delaney didn't back away. She leaned directly into River's ear, a cruel, triumphant smile plastered across her face.

"Hotels are for people who serve," Delaney whispered coldly, entirely loud enough for the surrounding elites to hear. "Go back to making beds."
👉 River desperately looked through the crowd for her father, entirely unaware that his reaction would break her heart more than the torn dress.
