Chapter 4 - The Manager's Cruelty

"The Manager didn't just ask her to leave, sir," Lucy continued, glaring up at the terrified man in the white dress shirt.
When Eleanor had approached the front podium looking for Chloe, the Manager didn't offer her a seat. Chloe had explicitly pulled him aside earlier and handed him a crisp one-hundred-dollar bill. She told him that a confused, local beggar with dementia was wandering around the neighborhood in a blue dress, and that he needed to throw her out immediately if she stepped inside.
Eager to please his high-paying VIP guest, the Manager had marched right up to Eleanor.
He didn't ask for her name. He didn't offer her a glass of water.
"He grabbed her by the arm," Lucy cried, pointing at the faint red mark on Eleanor's skin. "He told her that peasants weren't allowed to solicit wealthy guests. He tried to drag her toward the front doors. It's freezing raining outside, sir, and she didn't even have her coat."
Eleanor had panicked. She pleaded with him, explaining that her son was Julian Vance, the billionaire real estate developer.
The Manager had just laughed cruelly in her face. "Sure you are, lady," he had mocked loudly, humiliating her in front of the entire restaurant. "And I'm the President of the United States. Get out before I call the police."
