Chapter 10 - The Owner's Peace

Margaret turned her back on her weeping son and looked directly at the General Manager.
"Mr. Rossi," Margaret commanded, her voice radiating the quiet, dignified power of a true empire builder. "Call the police and file a report for the forged signature. Then, have security escort these people off my property immediately."
"With pleasure, Mrs. Whitmore," Mr. Rossi bowed deeply.
The heavy, uniformed security guards of Bellavita immediately stepped forward. They didn't care about Adam’s expensive suit or Vanessa’s diamonds. They grabbed the arrogant couple by the arms, violently hauling them off the floor.
"Mom! No! Please!" Adam’s desperate shrieks echoed through the elegant restaurant.
Vanessa’s extended family didn't wait to be escorted. Mortified, humiliated, and deeply ashamed, they turned around and fled out the heavy brass doors into the Boston night, abandoning the lavish Mother's Day dinner they had tried to steal.
Adam and Vanessa were dragged out onto the sidewalk, completely disgraced in front of the city's elite.
The lobby of the restaurant fell into a peaceful, respectful silence.
Margaret turned to Sofia, who was still standing at the hostess desk, holding the declined credit cards.
"Take the fourteen-thousand-dollar feast they ordered," Margaret told the young manager with a warm, genuine smile. "And box it up. Distribute it to the entire kitchen staff and the servers to take home to their own families tonight. They deserve a proper Mother's Day."
Sofia beamed, tears of gratitude in her eyes. "Thank you, Mrs. Whitmore."

Margaret adjusted her pearl brooch and slowly walked back into the glowing dining room. She sat down at her quiet corner table, picking up a fresh glass of champagne. The toxic weight was finally gone, leaving the elegant widow to rule her empire in absolute peace.
If you were Margaret, would you have allowed your son back into your life after he publicly apologized, or is forging a signature an unforgivable betrayal?
